Small Changes, Big Results- How to Stop Global Warming

What is Global Warming?

Believe it or not, global warming isn’t just something involved with politics. Many of us hear about it, but most people don’t know exactly what it is.

Global warming is a gradual increase oFf the Earth’s overall climate, taking place of a long period of time. Temperatures around the world have increased, and there are many other long-lasting effects, such as smog, that have resulted.

It is believed to be heavily caused by the rise of industry and cities. Obviously, we can’t go back to the things once were, but we can learn how to stop global warming.

Carpool with Friends

While cars have done great things for the human race, they have also released tons of chemicals into our atmosphere. We know a majority of you all use a car to run errands, drive to work, and drop your kids off at school.

Even though cars are a necessity for most, find more opportunities to carpool! Not only is it a great way to help out the environment, but it can also bring you closer to friends.

Switch off driving some mornings to school or work with a friend. Are you going to the beach or park for the day? Offer to pick your friend up and drive them.

To take it a step further, look into electric cars.

On top of carpooling, you can turn exercise into transportation. If there are places you can walk and bike to, take advantage of the opportunity!

Plus, along your walk or ride, you can truly show your love for nature and surroundings. Breathe in the fresh air and soak up the sunshine on the way to the supermarket.

Go Paperless

One of the good things about the current world and the future is the variety of technological advancements. Many of these advancements provide opportunities to go paperless!

Think about it, how many of us carry cash on us these days? Most of us use cards. You can also set up bill payments to automatically draw from your account without having them send a paper bill.

Instead of mailing cards, you can send text messages. You can also type up and send documents instead of printing documents. It’s so much easier!

Grow a Garden

Do you need a new hobby? Well, you’re in luck. It’s time to grow a garden!

Plants suck up carbon dioxide, helping to reduce the effects of global warming. Even if you can’t plant tons of trees and rebuild a forest, just planting a garden is a small step toward success.

Starting a garden is a learning curve, but have patience with yourself. There are plenty of great plants for beginners, and once you get started, you’ll be proud of yourself.

Hang Your Clothes

Take advantage of sunny days and warm weather to hang up your clothes outside on a line. Since most clothes aren’t meant to be thrown in a dryer anyway, place them outside.

You won’t have to use a ton of energy to dry all of your clothes, and it’ll cut down on your electricity bill. Plus, it gives you an excuse to spend some time outside.

Save Water

Since we were young, we’ve heard plenty of times to turn off the faucet while we brush our teeth. Not only does it cut down on the water bill, but it also saves energy. It takes energy to pull and deliver water, remember?

Try to keep to short showers. Don’t allow the water to run forever while you sing and dance. (We know that’s what you’re doing.

Don’t run faucets unless it’s necessary. To help out with watering your garden, catch rainwater and use that to nourish your plants.

Use Reusable Towels

Napkins are a wonderful invention for eating on the road or eating at your desk. However, taking time to replace napkins in your home with reusable towels is one of the best ways to reduce ecological footprints.

With every napkin you use, think about all of the trees being cut down. Once they are cut down, think about all the energy it takes to cut them up and ship them. Also, think about all of the carbon dioxiIde that’s not getting sucked up.

Turn off the Lights

Whenever you leave a room, make sure to flip off the switch. Leaving a light on for hours can use up tons of energy.

Try using a solar-powered night light or lighting a few candles in the evening to lighten things up a bit. It’ll help your electricity bill and the environment!

Educate Yourself

One of the best things you can do is educate yourself and the people close to you on how to stop global warming. Learn on how to reduce water and energy usage. Teach your kids friendly habits.

Once you have more information, pair it with action! Get out there, buy a bike, and plant a tree.
